How can we give you so much Mentokage at such low prices? VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME!

Ooo, oh yah baby, uunh....Line!

With all the concern these days about the scaled-down Golden Globes and whether the Oscars will proceed this year, no one paid much attention to the fact that the Adult Entertainment Awards went ahead without a hitch.

(No, I'm not putting up any pictures to accompany this piece. I once put up a picture of a fully-clothed Jenna Jameson for a fake news bit. It drove my traffic way, way up, but it wasn't good traffic to put it mildly.)

So, anyway, I was wondering:

Do ya figger the porn industry is suffering from the writers' strike at all? How exactly would we know if the quality of porn scripts started to decline?

Just curious, just throwing that out there for discussion.

Wait...They actually have speaking parts in porn movies?

So, do you watch them with the sound down or just fast forward through any dialogue? ;-)

In the movie "Men Don't Leave" (Jessica Lange, Arliss Howard, Joan Cusack) there's this great bit character, a sleazy fence who recruits kids to steal VCRs for him. As a side business, he edits adult films to take out what he calls "da tawkie bits".

In one scene, he tries to haggle with a young thief who's brought him a VCR with no remote.

"What good's it with no remote? Just imagine, you're sitting at home with your girlfriend, watching a nice pornie and you want to fast-forward through da tawkie bits but ya got no remote. What good is that?"

Sorta the same sentiments as Rachel: Quality in porn scripts?

I'm, um, not exactly an expert in this area, but I would say that a good quality script with convincing story would actually make the, shall we say, arousal factor somewhat higher, believe it or not.

T and I have watched porn together and gotten a good laugh out of such quality dialogue.

I wonder is there a separate award for natural tits versus silicone implanted ones or do these porn stars need to compete head to head (or tit-to-tit) in the same boobs category?

I had no idea there was an adult film awards!

I agree re. the "virtues" of a quality script and convincing story. But, as a writer, I suppose I have a bias.

Just for your benefit, Cindy, I took the trouble to look up the adult video awards categories. Wow, they have a lot of categories! None, however, for natural vs. silicone. The closest would be "Best Amateur Release".

As you feared, the "Best Big Bust Release" category includes films in both the "naturals" and not-so-natural categories.

You are right that this does not seem entirely fair. In fact, it's in the same vein as the steroids scandals in sports, don't you think?

You should write a letter. ;-)

"coxdrew", hmmm... I think my new porno name should be Drew Cox. Whaddaya think?

Might be taken, though. My previous porno name, Robin Souris is still perfectly good.

I realize I'm a bit late coming to this party (ahem), but just wanted to add that I thought either there was no plot, no dialog involving words of 3 syllables or more, or that in the event some of those pesky elements were needed, they just borrowed them from other movies. (Think "Driving Miss Daisy Crazy," for example.)

...or "Saving Ryan's Privates" or "Romancing the Bone" or "Bram Stroker's Dracula" etc etc.
