Shape of Things to Come

I shall now, Nostradamus-like, pick five news stories from the past week that say something important about long-term trends. Squint between the lines of these stories and you can make out the outlines of where we will be in 50 years, for better or worse. Open for discussion. Feel free to suggest your own.

Bollywood Tour Launched in T.O.

Russia, China Hold Joint War Games

US, Canada, Mexico Hold Security and Prosperity Partnership Talks

Governments Worldwide Bailout Banks Caught in Credit Crisis

World Headed for Old-Age Crunch

I don't want to provide a bunch of commentary on these, because I think they speak for themselves. But a couple quick notes on the first and last headlines:

- has anyone else noticed how much High School Musical resembles a Bollywood production? Just imagine what it will be like when everything on TV and in the theaters is a High School Musical knock -off.

- isn't nature wonderful? It looks like the grotesquely high human population of the 20th Century was just an anomaly. Although it will probably screw up the global economy, a plummeting human population would solve many other problems .... like finding a parking spot, for example.

ha--bollywood!

how, i don't know, what's the word, sad? telling? depressing? that we are so initmately acquainted with the phenomenona that is high school musical.

my youngest was sooooooooooooooo excited to watch it she almost couldn't stand it. they had a countdown on the tv all day long saying exactly how many hours and minutes until it started. and she knew the words to half the songs already because they've been playing them repeatedly for months during promos for the movie. my god.

the powers that be could learn some lessons on indoctrination techniques from disney the pr crew.

Same in my house, I'm afraid. I imagine most households in North America followed that cue.

I tell ya, if I have to hear "We gotta work, work, work it out" one more time...

The casting is as much of the evil magic as anything. That Ashley Tisdale, I don't even think she's that attractive, but I can't take my eyes off her when she's on the screen.

And that Zac Efron, he's so pretty. If my wife had the opportunity to run off with him, I couldn't really fault her.

you know, i have to agree about ashley tisdale--she's eerily captivating. actually, i think she's a pretty good little actress. she's old though--something like 22. ;-)

do you think they had zac efron wear blue-tinted contacts? i just don't see how anyone's eyes could be that blue.

ahhhh!!!!!!!!!
