Ya Think?

This bit sounds like one of my fake news stories:

Sexual advances at singles bars common: study

Updated Fri. May. 18 2007 11:01 AM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

At least 80 per cent of women surveyed in a new study say they have been approached in a sexually overt way while at a singles bar.

The study, "Sexually overt approaches in singles bars," published this month in The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality, surveyed female university students aged 18 to 28. Most of the women were in their first year of an undergraduate program.

Can you imagine? College girls aged 18 to 28 being the subjects of sexual advances? What has the world come to?

I'm just trying to imagine the difficult job of these poor research assistants who had to go out to singles bars, night after night, and talk to co-eds, all in the name of science. "Ah, excuse me miss. Can you tell me: do guys around here ever try to hit on you?"

OK, OK, I know there's a serious issue in this story, but you have to admit that headline just sounds goofy.

Why that bears out my own research. You see, I frequently go to singles bars dressed as a lay-dee and am often hit upon. Um, you understand that I only do this in the name of science...

Damn, where's the delete icon...???

I totally understand, all in the name of science. Your dedication to the cause of science is both renowned and laudable.

Looking at the article closer, I found a further bit of hilarity:

"While alcohol was not measured in the study, researchers said it is an important factor because it is a defining characteristic of a bar."

Man, nothing gets past those guys, eh?

I am more interested in how "intoxicated" those ladies are when they were being approached!!

The frightening thing is these guys got someone to award them research grants for this kind of nonsense.

What next??? "People tend to put umberllas when it rains*"

*(except in hot countries where we found they use them more for shade purposes).

(SORRY, I USED A 'BAD' WORD IN THE ORIGINAL COMMENT THAT I THEN AMENDED)

my first reaction was "no shit!" then i thought, hey, could i get paid to do research like this? i'd volunteer to either be the "lay-dee" or the researcher.
